New, 650bhp Noble supercar due for launch in 2009

This is the new Noble M600 supercar running high-speed laps of a British test track ahead of its much-anticipated launch next year. The new M600 is the 650bhp two-seater that Noble hopes will relaunch the firm after founder Lee Noble left last year. Power for the Noble M600 is delivered by a 4.4-litre V8, the same unit that’s used in the Volvo XC90, but here it’s fitted with twin turbochargers to offer 650bhp and genuine supercar pace. The M600 gets a six-speed Graziano gearbox and an all carbon-fibre body, which should help keep weight below 1000kg. Expect 0-60mph in under four seconds and a top speed close to 200mph. Noble’s new boss, Peter Boutwood, said “We have made significant design improvements both to the exterior and interior of the M600”, compared with the original prototype. The original production volume of around 50 M600s a year is still the company’s target, but speculation is still rife over where the car will be built.“We have yet to make a firm commitment on the location of the manufacture, although it is our intention and wish, if it all, possible to make this car in the UK,” said Boutwood.
