On sale in the UK on 1 December

Toyota has shown off its all-new Land Cruiser ahead of its official launch at the Frankfurt motor show tomorrow.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser will be available in the UK exclusively with five doors and seven seats, while one diesel engine is the only option in the range.

Its 171bhp 3.0-litre D-4D will be mated to a five-speed auto’ ‘box. It has combined fuel economy of 34.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 214g/km, which Toyota claim are the best figures in its class.

The body-on-frame construction remains from the old model, but Toyota claims it has increased rigidity by 11 per cent. Insulating frame-to-body mounts have been added to absorb engine, drivetrain and road noise, and to improve ride comfort.

Higher spec models will be offered with a new electronic kinetic dynamic suspension system, which adjusts the front and rear anti-roll bars for optimised on and off-road performance.

The top-spec LC5 model gets Toyota’s adaptive variable suspension system (AVS) with roll posture control, which offers a choice of three damper settings. An electronically controlled rear air suspension system works with the AVS, providing an auto-levelling function and switchable height control.

A new multi-terrain select system features, which automatically controls power and braking to optimise performance for different types of off-road surfaces. A multi-terrain monitor feeds real time images from around the vehicle from a network of four cameras to provide the driver with more information about the immediate surroundings.

Prices are expected to start at around £30,000 when it goes on sale on 1 December.

And Peugeot say they need to design more beautiful cars... I now know where the designer of the Ssangyong Rodius moved to.

Oooooooooooo! A black one? I thought Toyota only made them in white with a big blue U and a big blue N on the side.

Please, please don't offer high-res pictures of this car. It's already offensively hideous in low-res format!

Not sure what's happened to Toyota's design team lately.

The full-sized Lexus LX570 is also hideous in its current guise, not to mention its bloated flanks make it very hard to place in heavy traffic. Thankfully everyone makes way for you because they are horrified by the ugliness approaching from behind .........
