PSA Peugeot president Philippe Varin has revealed the name of the 407 and 607 replacement - the 508.
Early development work on the 508 - which will replace both the 407 and 607 at the same time - has already begun and, as the car's name suggests, in terms of size it will sit between the models it replaces.
The current plan is for a 508 concept car to be unveiled at the Paris show next year, before the production version is launched at the Geneva motor show in 2011.
The model will mark the return of the series of 50x numbers, which were last seen on the 505 when it was launched in 1979.

Re: Peugeot 508 in, 407 and 607 out
I don't think Citroen has any plans to replace the current C6, great and intriguing as it is.
That's because Citroen are the more profitable partner at the moment, with better products too:
C3 vs 208, C4 vs 308/3008, C5 vs 407
All i can hope for Peugeot is that the 508 doesn't have too much of teh 5008's styling.
Re: Peugeot 508 in, 407 and 607 out
Interesting to think that Citroen is pushing ahead with C5 AND C6, whereas Peugeot will replace the 407 and 607 with one model. Up until a few years ago the Pug was the more dominant partner in the PSA, but it looks like Citroen is ruling the roost presently.

If it's in the spirit of the great 50x cars of the past, surely it should be rear-wheel drive. Fat chance of that, though ...
