Michael Schumacher's comeback to Formula One is looking increasingly possible, according to the sport's promoter Bernie Ecclestone.
Speaking to the Times newspaper Ecclestone, who previously dismissed suggestions the seven-time champion could return, said: "I would personally doubt that he's going to make a comeback but, having said that, it's maybe getting a bit stronger than a rumour."
Ecclestone also admitted that the return of Schumacher would be good for the sport.
"Oh, it would be magic," he said. "You saw the interest he created when he was going to come back after Felipe Massa had his accident."
BMW refugee Nick Heidfeld is reported to be waiting in the wings to sign a Mercedes contract if Schumacher doesn't return, but Ecclestone said Mercedes shoudl wait on a Schumacher decision.
"Well, you'd have to pick Michael, wouldn't you?" he said. "There's no discussion about that. It's the obvious thing. Whether or not it's going to happen, I don't know. If I was Michael I wouldn't do it, but I'm sure he knows he could get the job done."
