Peugeot 508 spied in winter testing ahead of its launch at the Paris motor show in September

Peugeot’s replacement for the 407 and 607 saloons, the 508, has been caught in winter testing under heavy disguise.

The Peugeot 508 will sit between the two models it replaces in terms of size and will share its all-new chassis with the Citroen C5.

The heavy disguise of the development car gives little away about the 508’s styling, but Autocar understands it will be more evolutionary in its design than the step from the 406 to 407.

However, it is understood that the design will have eye-catching detailing and “hard-edged” looks that will help it to stand out from other mid-sized saloons.

The 508 is expected to feature hydropneumatic suspension and adaptive headlamps. A diesel-hybrid powertrain option is also likely to be offered, technology Peugeot is pioneering with its forthcoming 3008 hybrid.

The 508 concept car is expected to be unveiled at this year’s Paris motor show, before the production version is launched at the Geneva motor show next year.

Re: New Peugeot 407 caught testing

It will be very interesting to see where they go with the styling. Larger Peugeots have often been styled with panache, so lets hope its back this time, and after the SR1 there is hope.

Hydropneumatic suspension will be an odd thing though. surely its one of the things that gives Peugeot and Citroen seperate identities? Although if it rode with the suppleness of the 405 and 406 that would be a good thing. But it needs to handle as well too.

And can we have some petrol powered versions please? If Peugeot are returning to being makers of drivers cars we need petrol and manual gear boxes.
