Volker Mornhinweg moved to head up Merc's van division

The head of Mercedes's AMG performance division, Volker Mornhinweg, will move to the company's vans division from 1 April.

Mornhinweg is credited with turning the AMG department around, pushing for the development of more advanced performance models and making the division a core part of Mercedes. Inevitably, the SLS superacr will be viewed as his crowning glory at the department.

Mornhinweg will succeed Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, who was appointed to Daimler's board in February, and be replaced at AMG by Ola Kaellenius, who has headed up Mercedes-Benz’s operations in Tuscaloosa Alabama where the ML, GL and R-class are produced.

Kaellenius previously was head of Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines and worked at McLaren Automotive.

Kaellenius successor will be decided in the near future.
