Firm will recreate its Mille Miglia-winning 328 later this month

BMW will launch a new concept car at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2010 later this month to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the firm’s success at the classic Mille Miglia road race.

The BMW 328 Mille Miglia Coupe Concept is inspired by the car that won the race in 1940. It will be displayed alongside the vintage model, which has been undergoing extensive restoration work since the mid-1990s.

The firm did a similar thing two years ago with a concept inspired by the iconic M1. That car was built to celebrate 30 years of the M1.

Karl Baumer, director of BMW Group Classic, said, “We are very proud to bring this milestone in motor racing history and vehicle aerodynamics back into the public spotlight.

“Our tribute to the M1 at the Concorso two years ago showed how much inspiration the past can provide for the future. And the BMW 328 Kamm Coupé is an outstanding example of how far back the future at BMW stretches into the past.”
