Alfa Romeo will launch a brace of soft-roaders sized to compete with the Audi Q5 and forthcoming Audi Q3.
The Q3 rival is likely to be a platform variant of the new Giulietta.
The underpinnings of the bigger SUV have yet to be decided; however, a joint development with Jeep is a possibility.
Alfa Romeo CEO Harald Wester is hoping for a fivefold increase in the firm's global sales - from 100,000 to 500,000 annually - and the two SUVs are said to be an important cornerstone of this expansion.

Re: Alfa plans two new SUVs
Not sure they are going out of fashion. There has been a contraction in the market due to the recesion but it will likely pick up again afterward. Where ever people have money, 4x4's sell well. Look at emerging markets, such as China, 4x4 sales are growing massively. SUV's will continue to be popular with a great deal of people.

Coarse and crude they may be, but it's always a hoot driving my Dad's 5.7L Grand Cherokee. A welcome antitdote to my own MX-5. Personally, I quite like the idea of a 4x4 as a second car, and one with sexy Alfa styling would be even more desirable. However, as I'm not quite a new car buyer yet, Alfa probably shouldn't (and wouldn't, I'm sure) pay too much attention to my thoughts.

So, about 10-15 years too late and just as SUVs go out of fashion?
