Firm could bring back Talbot name as a new sub-brand

Peugeot is set to bring back the Talbot name as a sub-brand for a range of entry-level cars, according to a French media report.

La Voz de Galicia claims Peugeot is planning two new Talbot-badged models loosely based on models within its existing range, which would be manufactured at sister firm Citroen’s facility in Vigo.

Citroen has recently enjoyed success in bringing back the DS name for a range of more premium cars based on mainstream platforms. Renault also enjoys success with its budget Dacia brand, which is coming to the UK in 2012.

The Talbot name was last used on a road car in 1986 and Peugeot is reportedly keen to use a name already familiar to the motoring public, rather than set up a completely new brand from scratch.

Peugeot hasn’t made an official comment on the reports.

Re: Peugeot 'to resurrect Talbot'

Off topic but still Peugeot related..

At 2.00am this morning I was online and there was a story on the homepage about the first official pictures of the Peugeot 508 - showing a white Peugeot 508 with multispoke two tone alloys. When I clicked on the article it wouldn't open properly and the images were not displayed.

So... where's the article gone? What gives? Has autocar jumped the gun with a news story and then pulled it?

Unfortunately the Autocar media report could not be that trustworthy.
Hasn't this 'news' story been doing the rounds for months, if not years, now? I would think, if they were going to revive a brand, it would be Simca, which would have far greater recognition on the continent - after all the Rancho, Horizon, Alpine and ill-feted Tagora were all Simcas elsewhere.
