Sketch of new two-lus-two Eva GT leaked ahead of its Pebble Beach launch this weekend

One of Britain’s last remaining independent sports car makers has given Autocar an exclusive preview of its latest model: this is the first undisguised sketch of the Morgan Eva GT.

The new Morgan will be unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California this weekend.

The firm is expected to confirm official details about the car at that launch, but our early information is that it’s a two-plus-two coupé based on the firm’s bonded aluminium Aeromax platform and powered by BMW’s 302bhp 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight six engine.

Weighing less than 1.3 tonnes, it should be capable of sprinting to 60mph in less than 5.0sec and of averaging 40mpg.

Morgan director Charles Morgan said, “The Eva GT will go into production at Pickerleigh Rd in 2012. We’re planning a production series of 100 cars and will start taking deposits this Sunday.

“Our goal with the Eva GT is to manufacture a practical car that could be used every day and answer all of a family’s transport needs,” Morgan added.

“Although it has two large doors, the car can seat four adults and has a large boot that’s considerably deeper than that of the Supersports.

“The Eva GT will be fun to drive, with sensitive hydraulic power steering and excellent chassis balance. The mass is evenly distributed within the axles and the car has short overhangs.”

Re: New Morgan Eva GT: first pic

This car needs to be stunning in every detail. A very big job for Morgan. Spyker and Pagini go this right, lets hope Morgan can too.

Much as I like very long bonnets , I feel this car might be a little tricky to manage in traffic.Unless it has driver aids - side facing cameras a la 5-series.

Volvo for millionaires anyone?
