Bluemotion Technology added to Scirocco 2.0 TDI models to boost economy to 62.8mpg

Volkswagen has added eco ‘Bluemotion Technology’ tweaks to its Scirocco 2.0 TDI to improve economy to 62.8mpg and cut CO2 emissions to 118g/km.

All Scirocco models equipped with the 138bhp oil-burner will now get the improvements as standard, which include stop-start and battery regeneration systems. Before the changes, economy was rated at 55.4mpg and CO2 at 134g/km on models equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The modifications are also available on 138bhp 2.0 TDI Sciroccos equipped with the six-speed DSG gearbox. Economy improves from 51.4mpg to 57.6mpg and CO2 drops from 145g/km to 129g/km.

VW has also revealed changes to the 168bhp version of the 2.0 TDI engine in the Scirocco GT, which improves economy from 53.3mpg to 54.4mpg and drops CO2 from 139g/km to 134g/km in six-speed manual cars.

Knowing the diesel Scirroco I can't see why anyone would want a petrol! The 170bhp 2.0l TDI is fast and does 45+mpg in real world conditions, long term.
Probably because the 1.4 TSI 122 and 160 petrols are significantly cheaper to buy than the TDI 170 diesel, which costs about the same as the faster 2.0 TSI 210 petrol...

Eh? Efficient Dynamics range?

Yes, I thought BMW were starting to go the other way. There is now the designated 3-series Efficient dynamics model, and with MINI they've taken all the 'Efficient dynamics' features off the MINI One (they used to be standard), and created a specific Minimalism' model with different spec and reduced options.

The 320d ED is so designated as it has extra fuel saving features eg wheels, engine state of tune ect to increase mpg over and above the standard ED models. Bluemotion Tech branding is an add on pack for the Golf to improve mpg and to designate a car with some of the bluemotion technolgy fitted. But seems they are fitting it has standard on the Scirocco. To me should be standard across the range and models like BMW did when the launched efficient dynamics less the 116i that had to wait 6months for full ED.
