McLaren's new MP4-12C supercar will cost from £168,500, just over £1000 cheaper than the Ferrari 458

McLaren's new MP4-12C supercar will cost from £168,500 when sales start next year, the company has confirmed.

That means it will cost just over £1000 less than its chief rival, the Ferrari 458 Italia, which starts at £169,545. The price for the McLaren includes VAT at the new-for-2011 rate of 20 per cent but excludes the £55 first registration fee and £950 road fund licence. The Ferrari's price does include the two, but its price includes VAT at 17.5 per cent.

So when the pair on on sale at the same time next year, the McLaren is likely to be around £3000 cheaper than the 458 when its price takes into account the 2.5 per cent rise in VAT on 1 January.

Company boss Ron Dennis has previously pledged that buyers will not only get the fastest car money can buy with the MP4-12C, but also the highest build quality and highest level of dealer and aftersales support from any car manufacturer.

The MP4’s Ricardo-developed, twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre 90-degree V8 engine will rev to 8500rpm, with its maximum 592bhp output arriving at 7000rpm. The peak 442lb ft of torque is available from 3000rpm, although 80 per cent is available between 2000-6500rpm.

McLaren says the car will travel from 0-124mph in less than 10 seconds, and stop from 124mph in less than five seconds.Read the full story on the new McLaren MP4-12C

Matsoc;

'The little part of Ferrari customers who are looking for faster

car around will probably go for McLaren '

Lesia44;

'Too late,those people already bought a GT-R '.

Don't think so,those who can afford £168.000 and

above would not buy a GT-R,anyway,the 458 is

faster.

If you want something to blow the 458 away, you have

to go down the M600 road,to date we do not know what

the MP4 will do,no road test!

Many buyers don't give a stuff what the chassis is made of, they'll be looking for the 'X' factor

I agree, that's why I think the 458 sales will overshadow the McLaren sales. But it's quite obvious, there is no other brand with an "X factor" comparable with Ferrari. The car nuts with a lot of money will probably buy both, anyway. We are talking about very expensive cars, if you could afford one, you could probably afford the other too.
