Buick has introduced its Astra-based Verano at the Detroit motor show

Buick has introduced its new Verano saloon at the Detroit motor show.

Based on the Chevrolet Cruze/Vauxhall Astra platform, the four-door Verano will be powered by an Ecotec 2.4-litre engine producing 175bhp and 170lbft of torque. Mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox it will sprint to 60mph in eight seconds.

The company will also introduce a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine to the line-up in the future.

Features of the car include 17-inch alloy wheels, 10 airbags and touch screen sat-nav, with options such as heated seats and steering wheel, push-button start and automatic climate control available.

Officially on sale at the end of 2011, the Verano will be priced from between £13,500 and £17,000 when it goes on sale in the US.
