Ford has revealed the first details of a brace of C-Max hybrids that it has showcased at the Detroit motor show.
A plug-in hybrid – called C-Max Energi - and a conventional hybrid – known as C-Max Hybrid - will be launched in North America next year before a European launch in 2013.
Power from the C-Max Energi comes from an efficient Atkinson-cycle 2.0-litre petrol engine and a high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack that gives the car a combined range of more than 500 miles.

The Energi operates for most of the time on electric power only; the engine is used when battery power runs out or when certain driving conditions are met.
The C-Max Hybrid uses the same engine and battery pack as the Energi but it doesn’t have the option for its battery pack to be plugged into the mains and recharged.
Like the Energi, detailed information on its powertrain and economy potential is scarce, but Ford says it wants the C-Max Hybrid to have a better mpg than the Ford Fusion Hybrid’s 49mpg.

Styling for both models is subtly tweaked from the standard C-Max models they are based on, adopting a front grille inspired by the Ford Focus Electric revealed last week in Las Vegas. Interior features include MyFord Touch and MyFord Mobile technology showcased on the Focus Electric.
C-Max hybrids for North America will be built in Michigan, while European models will be built in Valencia.
Ford will also be showcasing the C-Max that North American customers will be able to buy from 2012 at Detroit, a model based on the seven-seat Grand C-Max available in Europe complete with sliding rear doors.
