Special Lightshine model has a record low 86g/km CO2 figure

Smart has announced a new special edition of its Fortwo city car with CO2 emissions of just 86g/km.

Power for the Smart Fortwo Lightshine comes from a 54bhp, 0.8-litre, three-cylinder CDI engine, the cleanest combustion-engined car to date anywhere in the world, according to Smart.

Based on the Passion coupé model, the Lightshine features light green matte body panels, LED daytime running lights, colour-coded headlamp surrounds, Lightshine badging and bespoke alloy wheels.

The Lightshine also includes a touch-sensitive satellite navigation system (as found in the top-spec Passion), CD/DVD/SD functionality and iPod connectivity.

Other interior touches include a three-spoke steering wheel with gearshift paddles and floor mats with an embedded Lightshine logo.

The Lightshine is priced from £11,405, and just 86 are destined for the UK – a number that reflects its CO2 figure.
