Yellow sac spiders have been getting in Mazda 6 fuel systems, a problem that could cause fires

Spiders getting into the fuel system of the Mazda 6 in North and Central America have forced the firm to recall 65,000 units of the car.

Dealers have now reported 20 cases of yellow sac spiders getting in a vent line of the fuel system and building nests, which could increase pressure in the tank leading to cracks or even fire.

Mazda has therefore recalled 50,000 units of the 6 from the 2009-10 model year in the US and an additional 15,000 from the same period in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Mazda is unsure of why yellow sac spiders are nesting in the 6 and has confirmed there have no accidents caused by the problem.
