New two-door coupe is planned to go on sale in September and features more power and bigger wheels

Porsche has revealed its latest limited edition special: the Cayman S Black Edition.

Created as a send off for the current first generation Cayman line-up, which is due to be replaced within the next 12 months, the new two door coupe is planned to go on sale in September with a more powerful engine, larger wheel and tyre package and greater standard equipment levels than the existing Cayman S.

Inside, the new Porsche receives black trims, black sport seats, a sports steering wheel, darkened instrument graphics, a Porsche sound plus package, stainless steel scuff plates with 'Black Edition' inscriptions and a commemorative badge identifying it as one of a special build of 500 units. Powering the two seat coupe is the same version of Porsche’s naturally aspirated 3.4-litre horizontally-opposed six-cylinder engine as that found in the recently introduced Cayman R. It delivers 325bhp at 7400rpm – some 10bhp more than that of the Cayman S, along with 272lb ft of torque at 4750rpm.

Porsche claims the Cayman S Black Edition will run from 0-62mph in 5.1sec with a standard six-speed manual gearbox . An optional seven speed double clutch gearbox improves standing start acceleration to just 4.8sec. Top speed is put at a respective 173mph and 172mph.

Underpinning the Cayman S Black Edition is the same chassis and suspension as used by the standard Cayman S. The only change is the adoption of 19-inch wheels from the Cayman R – measuring 8.5-inches wide up front and 10-inches at the rear. They are shod with 235/35 ZR 19 front and 265/35 ZR 19 rear tyres.

Prices start from £50,420.
