Mini has turned its new two-door Coupe into a concept racer

This is the Mini Coupé Endurance, a one-off motorsport version of the new two-door that has been unveiled on the eve of the Nürburgring 24 Hours in Germany.

The Endurance has a tuned version of the Mini JCW’s 1.6-litre turbocharged motor, now producing 247bhp and up to 243lb ft on overboost, an increase of 39bhp and 36lb ft over the roadgoing powerplant. The racer’s top speed is the same, though, at 149mph.

Mini has no immediate plans to put the racer into production; however, its more potent outputs do show that the firm has further potential in the 1.6-litre motor.

It may choose this higher state of tune for hotter, rally-themed models that are widely tipped to appear in line with the brand’s full assault on the WRC next year.
