Rally version of new V6 road car conforms to new FIA R-GT regulations

Lotus plans an official rallying comeback with this Exige GT asphalt rally racer. Also on display at Frankfurt motor show today, it conforms to the new FIA R-GT regulations, aimed at high-performance, rear-drive road cars not normally used for rallying.

The Exige GT uses a version of the road car’s 3.5-litre V6, detuned to 298bhp and mated to a six-speed sequential ’box and limited-slip differential.

Weight has been increased to 1200kg, also to satisfy regulations, and a steel rollcage added, along with crash protection and lexan side windows.

The brakes and adjustable suspension have also been upgraded.
