The new Lexus GS 450h has been shown at the Frankfurt motor show

The fourth-generation Lexus GS 450h has been unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show.

Revisions to the exterior styling include the brand’s inverted trapezoid upper grille and slanted lower grille, which have been combined, “bridging the middle of the bumper to create a prominent ‘spindle’ shape,” according to Lexus.

Brake cooling ducts either side of the spindle grille “adds to the distinctive look, as well as being functional.”

Powering the new GS 450h is a second-generation Lexus Hybrid Drive system, which produces 338bhp and 254lb ft of torque. From standing, the new car will hit 62mph in 5.9sec, with top speed achieved at 155mph.

Fuel consumption compared with the previous model has been improved by 18 per cent to 44.8mpg and Co2 emissions have fallen below 145g/km.

At 15mm higher than its predecessor, the new car affords improved interior accommodation and boot space.

Inside, efforts have been made to provide a “driver-focused cockpit,” with a “clean and elegant” dashboard a “cocoon-like environment for the driver and front passenger.”

A first for a passenger car is the 450h’s large 12.3-inch LCD multi-display screen with ‘Remote Touch Interface’.

Other revisions inside include an extra 50mm of reach adjustment for the steering wheel – which can also be chosen with a bamboo finish - and the introduction of a new head-up-display system.
