Kia Soul gets exterior and interior improvements, plus a new 140bhp, 1.6-litre petrol engine

A revised Kia Soul boasting a range of new powertrain options, a higher specification and an uprated cabin design was unveiled at Frankfurt motor show this week.

The new Kia Soul will be available with a 140bhp, 1.6-litre engine that delivers 122lb ft at 4850rpm. A 128bhp, 192lb ft CRDI diesel option – one of the most popular choices in the Soul range – will continue to be available.

In most European markets, both engines will be offered with a choice of new six-speed manual or automatic transmissions, bringing the latest Soul's specification in line with the rest of Kia's modern product range.

An optional EcoDynamics pack, which features start-stop technology and alternator management, will cut tailpipe CO2 emissions of the refreshed Soul to 125g/km and 139g/km for diesel and petrol models respectively.

Exterior tweaks include a nose that is 15mm longer than the previous version, taking the Kia Soul’s overall length to 4120mm. The front air intake is wider and larger fog lamps are also given a more prominent design. The Soul gets new 18-inch alloys and redesigned door handles and side mirrors.

At the rear, Kia has extended the black bumper inset panel and repositioned the fog lamps. More powerful twin-bulb headlamps with black bezels and twin-bulb daylight running lights are fitted as standard; LED light clusters at the front and rear are standard on higher-spec versions.

Inside, the cabin benefits from a revised centre console, circular-type LCD heater controls and a wider choice of new interior fabrics, with tartan check, houndstooth and leather on offer.

Some higher-spec versions of the Soul get a high definition instrument cluster, while key touch-points in the cabin are coated in a multi-metal paint to offer greater durability.

The revamped Kia Soul goes on sale next month, UK prices to be confirmed.
