Coventry vehicle manufacturer Microcab will launch its new H2EV hydrogen fuel cell vehicle this week, following the recent opening of the UK’s first hydrogen refuelling station in Swindon.
A fleet of Microcabs will be given to West Midlands’ CABLED (Coventry and Birmingham Low Emission Demonstrator) trial to showcase and evaluate the cars.

When brimmed with hydrogen, the 3kW fuel cell-powered H2EV will travel a claimed 100 miles and can be refilled “in a matter of minutesâ€.
The chassis of the car – designed by Microcab and electric carmaker Delta Motorsport – is engineered by Lotus.
Managing director of Microcab and professor of sustainable transport design at Coventry University, John Jostins, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching our new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle into the CABLED trial here in the West Midlands.
“The H2EV represents a significant step in the development of hydrogen as an alternative energy source of the future for cars, and the launch of the new filling station in Swindon – alongside the existing private stations at Coventry University and in Birmingham – is another milestone for the low-carbon industry.â€
