Toyota's hybrid supermini could now make UK shores. Details of the new car have been leaked online

The new Toyota Prius C hybrid supermini could be destined for UK shores as part of plans to bolster its offerings in the small car segment. The first details and pics of the forthcoming production Japanese-spec Toyota Prius C – which makes its official public debut at the Tokyo motor show in November - leaked out in an official brochure earlier today.

First seen as the Toyota Prius C Concept at the Detroit motor show in January, the Prius C will be the smallest car in Toyota’s newly expanded range of Prius-badged cars. At 3995mm long, 1695mm wide and 1445mm tall, the Prius C is 110mm longer and 65mm lower than Toyota's new Yaris. Width for both cars is identical.

The leaked brochure reveals power for the baby Prius comes courtesy of a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain, which mates a 1.4-litre engine to an electric motor giving a combined figure of just 99bhp. Power is transferred to the front wheels through a CVT transmission. The new car will return up to 101mpg, Toyota claims, although CO2 emissions have yet to be revealed.

In January, Autocar reported that the strength of the Japanese yen seemed almost certain to keep a production version of Toyota's hybrid supermini out of Europe. But insiders have revealed that the model may have a production future in the UK after all, although a final decision has yet to be taken.

The Prius C is set to make its European debut at the Geneva motor show in March.
