The Infiniti brand is pushing ahead with its plans to build an electric sports car for 2012

Infiniti has hinted at the styling of the new electric sports car it is developing in two ‘teaser’ pictures.

The manufacturer is planning to show off its new creation – first announced in September – at the Geneva motor show in March 2012.

The car is part of Infiniti’s plan to extend its range of hybrids and explore high performance, low emission electric cars.

Infiniti spokesman Andy Palmer said: “At the Geneva show next year, we will present our vision for a totally new kind of inspired premium performance car. Infiniti already has hybrid and clean diesel models on sale. And with an all-electric saloon on the way, the natural next step was to push the boundaries where performance and the environment intersect.”

Infiniti could use the same technology that is currently being used in the Nissan Leaf, more notably the one-off racing version, the Leaf Nismo RC.

The RC features a low roofline, a carbonfibre tub and a mid-engined, rear-drive design while housing a completely standard Leaf powertrain, including its batteries.
