The Nissan 370Z does have a long-term future in the Nissanâs future product line-up and any future smaller, lighter sports car would likely to be all-electric, Nissan product planning chief Andy Palmer has confirmed.
Speaking to Autocar at the Tokyo motor show, Palmer said Nissan would not follow Subaru and Toyota into making a smaller, lighter BRZ/GT 86-style sports cars as the 370Z was âone of the pillars of the brand, it wonât disappearâ.
Palmer instead said that the all-electric Esflow concept showed the future of a smaller Nissan sports car and an all-electric sports car was âentirely feasibleâ.
Nissan will follow up the Leaf with an electric van, a small electric Infiniti saloon and a city car, Palmer confirmed.
He added that the next range of EVs after that would really start to test the new possibilities of the technology and an electric sports car could adopt in-wheel electric motors.
âThe next EVs will let you explore what the new architecture can do and will express where the cars of the future will go,â said Palmer.
