The Nissan Sylphy New-G is described as an-all new global saloon, but it previews the next Sylphy

The Nissan Sylphy New-G is described as an-all new global saloon, but really it's the next generation Sylphy. The car, which received its debut at today's Beijing motor show will spearhead the firm's assualt on emerging markets.

Nissan says 'New G' means 'New Generation' as it is a new take on the car, and a big step on from the old Sylphy.

It is aimed at emerging markets and tagged as one class above the mainstream. Nissan says it is roomier than the class average and constructed using improved materials. It will be powered by a 1.8 petrol engine mated to a CVT transmission.

The new Sylphy will be produced at the Guangzhou plant, the product of the Nissan-Dongfeng joint venture, and will go on sale in the summer. It will launch in "most major markets by end of year and 120 countries by 2014"

Nissan also revealed the Pivo 3, which is described as a "smart urban EV of the near future". Production in modified form is now certain.
