The new Fiat 500 has received more attention than any other car this year.
Acclaimed for its clever design and marketing, there is no other new car which can top the hype that surrounds Fiat's new bambino, nor any other car in the class that can compete with the waiting list stretching well into next year.
But the reason for this fanfare is the original 'Nuovo 500', which was road tested by Autocar in September 1961.
Less well known is the Fiat Topolino which preceded it, and the many variations which followed right up until the Cinquecento that now adorns most college campuses across the country.
