The most looked at cars on Autocar.co.uk during the first day of the Frankfurt motor show

Land Rover's two new Defender concepts were the most viewed cars on Autocar.co.uk during the Frankfurt motor show's first press day earlier this week.

The Land Rover Defender DC100 and DC100 Sport concepts beat the new Honda Civic to top spot, with the Maserati Kubang SUV, Jaguar C-X16 and Ford Fiesta ST also proving popular.

Surprisingly, the news about the facelifted Toyota Avensis was your sixth most-read Frankfurt motor show story on Autocar.co.uk.

Here's the full run-down of the top ten stories:

1 – Land Rover Defender concepts

The two cars included the previously seen DC100 concept and a shock new arrival, the ‘cool’ version of its DC100 Defender replacement concept. The second concept is aimed at demonstrating the image and design flexibility that it intends to build into the new model, which is due in 2015.

2 – Honda Civic

Honda is promising much-improved dynamics and a higher-quality interior for the new, ninth-generation Civic, which has made its debut at the Frankfurt motor show and will go on sale in the UK on October 1.

3 – Maserati Kubang SUV

The Maserati Kubang SUV concept is the firm's answer to the success of the Porsche Cayenne. The sleek four door integrates Maserati's trademark rear haunches into a coupé-esque body with a shallowly raked rear.

4 – Jaguar C-X16

Jaguar's show-stopping C-X16 will cost between £55,000 and £70,000 when it goes on sale. Its hybrid drivetrain helps it to sprint to 62mph from standstill in just 4.4sec, and on to a top speed limited to 186mph.

5 – Ford Fiesta ST

The turbocharged baby hatchback is set to go into production next year and proved to be a major hit with both Frankfurt showgoers and Autocar.co.uk readers.

6 – Toyota Avensis

According to Toyota, the refreshed, third-generation version of the Avensis has a “bolder, more refined exterior design and improvements to the finish quality, comfort and NVH in the cabin".

Making the biggest stir at the Ford stand was the new Focus ST. The 247bhp model will be available as an estate and goes on sale in 2012.

8 – Mercedes F125

New form Mercedes-Benz was its concept F125. It's a preview for the evolution of the S-class luxury saloon that promises 105mpg fuel economy and is billed as a rolling laboratory for the driveline technology.

9 – VW Ups

Volkswagen revealed a barrage of Up concepts at Frankfurt, including an Up GT.
