New performance-oriented Range Rover Sport to get at least 542bhp ahead of going on sale late this year

The upcoming high-performance Range Rover Sport has been previewed again with a third official video from Jaguar Land Rover. The model, which can be seen testing at the Nurburgring, is believed to be one of the first models to come from JLR's new Special Operations Division.

Destined to crown the Sport range, reports suggest the performance Range Rover will get more power from its 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, the same unit found in Jaguar's XKR-S, tuned to at least 542bhp. Other models using that engine include the XFR-S Sportbrake and the Jaguar XJR.

By comparison, the most powerful version of the standard Range Rover Sport has 510bhp, and can reach 60mph in five seconds with a top speed of 155mph. Sources suggest Land Rover is looking for a 0-62mph time of around 4.5 seconds for the new model.

As well as the visual changes seen here, Land Rover's engineers are expected to make changes to the Range Rover Sport's suspension, including modifications to the car's software, which governs its active anti-roll bars and air springs. A more powerful braking system is also likely to be introduced, although larger wheels than the 21-inch units already fitted to the Sport are unlikely.

Judging by the late-stage appearance of this development prototype, we expect the hot Range Rover Sport to go on sale at the end of this year. Some reports have suggested the model could make an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month. We've tied all three preview videos together below to give you a close look at the hot new Range Rover Sport.

510 hp? 100 mph in 11 secs? Nearly as quick as an AC Cobra 427? Clearly the existing RRS is too slow for a Land Rover...

GREEN HEAVEN!

Any Range Rover Sport could beat the Nurburgring lap record by shortcutting across the fields.
