Currently reading: New McLaren model teased - video

McLaren has teased an all-new model, likely to be an F1 successor, ahead of a full announcement at the Paris motor show

McLaren will use the Paris motor show later this month to ‘showcase future plans’ and has revealed a teaser sketch and video to back-up the announcement.

The sketch and video reveal flowing lines reminiscent of the MP4-12C, and could be interpreted as the second model in the company’s range — widely billed as the successor to the mid-1990s F1.

"The next exciting chapter of the brand will begin in Paris later this month. The stage is set and the story will unfold over the coming weeks," said the company.

If the announcement does confirm the F1 successor (for which a 2014 launch is mooted) the car is expected to have the performance to eclipse every other hypercar, including the Bugatti Veyron, the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder and the successor to the Ferrari Enzo.

According to our sources, testing of the car has taken place in Spain, Germany and Bahrain. A price approaching £1 million seems a likely estimate for each of the 500 units planned for the production run.

Although early rumours suggested that power would come from a V8 powerplant, it now seems that a V10 could be adopted. The engine is being developed by McLaren in conjunction with Ricardo.

The McLaren is based around a lightweight carbonfibre monocell that is similar that used by the MP4-12C. Aluminium pushrod suspension will also feature, alongside hydraulic anti-roll control, adaptive dampers and a five-stage traction control system.

Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes will be standard, complete with brake steer and electronic brake force functions. The ability to switch off the ABS on race tracks is also likely to be offered.

McLaren insiders have described the styling as “bigger, angrier and more functional looking” than the MP4-12C, although styling cues from both the MP4-12C and the original F1 will be carried over. Active aerodynamics will also feature.

The Special One

Sir, beautifully put, and completely correct ! ( Never thought I'd say that !

I see on another motoring site that McLaren showed a revised front end for the MP4/12C at a recent car show in Windsor . ( Basically a deletion of that hideous moulded front grill arrangement .

Oh please, makers of motor cars...

...stop it for Pete's sake with these crappy teaser and so-called "leaked" pictures. We are not pre-pubescent girls anxious for the next glimpse of a hot boyband. Give us some f****** facts. Then again, perhaps it is these very pre-pubescent girls that run the marketing and PR departments of these manufacturers?
