Porsche confirms the final production-spec Porsche 918 Spyder will be shown at the Frankfurt motor show

The Porsche 918 Spyder will finally be revealed in production specification at the Frankfurt motor show, it has been confirmed.

The final production-spec car, so far revealed only in a tweet from Porsche, had its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier in the summer - but even then was still described as being in late pre-production form. The £628,000 hypercar, which is set to rival the likes of McLaren's P1 and the LaFerrari, will go on sale next month.

Porsche says the 918 Spyder is a pioneering model, in the mould of the Porsche 911 when it launched 50 years ago. Bosses claim "unprecidented" performance, with a 4.0-litre V8 and electric motors combining to produce 887bhp and a 0-62mph time of 2.8sec. It is said to to return between 94mpg and 85mpg on the combined cycle and emit 70g/km of CO2.

The car will later be offered with a Weissach performance package, which is expected to include extra use of ceramic, titanium and magnesium parts.

Styling?

I am sure it will be an epic car but just doesn’t seem to have the wow factor of the Ferrari or Mclaren. It is very Porsche in that is doesn’t wow but I am sure it will be a great drive. I would want more wow for money!

887bhp?

887bhp! This seems a lot more than what the original specs for the 918 suggested. Is this correct, or were the original figures of just over 700bhp just for the petrol engine which, if correct, is still a phenomenal amount for a N/A 4.0 engine in a road car?

Breaking cover

In the picture above it looks very bemusing as if a car is rapturing out of a metal cover. An interesting take on side gills or intakes.
