The Onyx supercar concept and PSA's compressed air-hybrid technology will premiere to the Chinese market in Shanghai

The Peugeot Onyx will take centre stage on Peugeot’s stand at the Shanghai motor show as it prepares to grow sales further in China. The firm sold more than 72,000 cars in the first quarter of 2013, a year-on-year increase of 31 per cent, in a market growing by 18 per cent.

Peugeot showed the Onyx for the first time at the 2012 Paris motor show. It features a mid-mounted V8 engine and bodywork featuring copper panels polished to a mirror finish. With no protective coating, the wings and doors will age, developing patina.

Peugeot’s HybridAir technology will also be taken to China for the first time. The innovative drivetrain uses compressed air technology as a cost-effective alternative to lithium-ion-driven batteries. PSA is targeting CO2 emissions of 49g/km and fuel consumption of 141mpg.

Copper panels?

If you're not familiar with what old copper roofed building looks like then search for one on the internet. Then ask yourself, would you really want your car to go that shade of green? I wouldn't.

I think it's cool. 50 years from now, if Peugeot survives for that long, it will sit in the brands showroom reminiscing of a beast from the past with that awesome oxidized copper .
