I've been reading these threads for a long time and have enjoyed watching this debate unfold. So much so that when JJB was deleted I even succumbed to registering!
Like James Read, I'll be a bit saddened to see JJB go. Okay, he was a bit sarcastic and his method was not so correct at times but show me a car media outlet where even the journos don't resort to cynicism (Mr Duff included!) or downright rude comments (Jeremy Clarkson). At least JJB tried to tone it down. But where do you draw the line? Do you delete anybody you don't like the sound of? Users would get more nervous about saying things in their own 'unique' way. Even 'Scrummy' is getting paranoid!
The advantage of the web is that you can skip past comments you don't want to read. Isn't it? So use your scroll bar.
That said, bullying and insults shouldn't be tolerated but surely the answer is to just delete the person. I thought allowing other users to tell him/her publicly to 'shut up' is just as bad. Surely the pack mentality against JJB is just another form of bullying? How about one of those 'report abuse' buttons? And shame on Autocar for then running a thread called 'Goodbye, JJB'. That's a bit 'personal'!
Anyway, I doubt if we'll see the last of JJB. The other advantage of the web is that he or she can subscribe again using different details.
And no, I'm not JJB - really, I'm not! :-)
