  • Goodbye, JJB

    Jun 02, 2008 3:26 PM

Most of you will be unsaddened to hear that I've turned off JJBoxster's profile and that his distinctive voice won't be heard on this forum again.

It's not a decision that's been taken lightly - we want the forum to be an inclusive, friendly place for anybody who wants to share a point of view or shoot the breeze.

But we won't tolerate bullying, abuse or offensive behaviour. A lesson that, despite several warnings, obviously didn't sink in.

So goodbye, JJB - I've got a feeling you won't be missed.

I say about time. Boxster boy was way out of order in many of his rantings, not in the views he had, but the way he put them across.

Caeser ruled with an iron hand, then with a wooden foot and finally with a piece of string.

He had ( i think) toned himself down here a bit after being yellow carded, but he just switched onto other car forums where he simply launched into people with abuse who had not even swapped any comments with him.  Very odd.

Cool, this means I'll start reading the forums again.

It's important that I acknowledge, to my peers, that I may not have helped with this episode. I may have made things worse at times so for that I'd like to apologise formally to all the forum users.

As an aside, I honestly believed there was a greater agenda at work here and something distinctly unpleasant lurking under the surface. I believe that I saw through this early on and it was this that characterised my subsequent interactions with JJB.

Once again, my apologies to everyone concerned. I am happy to be 'switched off' as well if the consensus is that this should be the case.

Actually, I will be saddened to see him go. He was controversial and unapologetic in his beliefs which you either liked or loathed. Autocar's first Marmite poster. Personally, I liked him and thought his views were refreshing and educational. I also think Scummy demonstrates integrity in his post and would like to hope now that we can all get on, regardless of how passionate we are in our views.

Arrivederci, JJB. Forza, Autocar forum !

I realise that I could've complained about him at any point, but it was nice having a reason behind the views of papers like the guardian.

Bad move, Mike. Sort of stifles the debate now with the usual suspects vindicated in their own approach to other people. I hope they learn from this. Yellow card and a half, if you like. 'Scummyplum', stay if you like but learn from this and be nice from now. Its not hard. Let's start again.

I have to say I'm glad he's gone. I didn't really find him educational or refreshing - just a tad repetitive and abusive. Which was a shame, and he ruined a lot of threads. Anyway, at least we can all get back to properly talking cars!

So what post got the poor lad blackballed, the final straw so to speak? Mr. Plumb from what I have seen you took a defensive stance in most of the scrums.

One does defend when one is attacked Jack but two wrongs most certainly do not make a right. I'm actually quite shocked if I'm honest that he been designated for termination. A brave move by the Autocar 'powers that be' or something else altogether? Not that I'm getting paranoid or anything.........

Like I said, you are my peers and I'll take the consensus view, I stand by that.

    Best,

I've been reading these threads for a long time and have enjoyed watching this debate unfold. So much so that when JJB was deleted I even succumbed to registering!

Like James Read, I'll be a bit saddened to see JJB go.  Okay, he was a bit sarcastic and his method was not so correct at times but show me a car media outlet where even the journos don't resort to cynicism (Mr Duff included!) or downright rude comments (Jeremy Clarkson).  At least JJB tried to tone it down. But where do you draw the line? Do you delete anybody you don't like the sound of? Users would get more nervous about saying things in their own 'unique' way.  Even 'Scrummy' is getting paranoid!

The advantage of the web is that you can skip past comments you don't want to read.  Isn't it?  So use your scroll bar.

That said, bullying and insults shouldn't be tolerated but surely the answer is to just delete the person.  I thought allowing other users to tell him/her publicly to 'shut up' is just as bad.  Surely the pack mentality against JJB is just another form of bullying? How about one of those 'report abuse' buttons?   And shame on Autocar for then running a thread called 'Goodbye, JJB'.  That's a bit 'personal'!

Anyway, I doubt if we'll see the last of JJB.  The other advantage of the web is that he or she can subscribe again using different details.

And no, I'm not JJB  - really, I'm not! :-)
