Welcome to the new-look autocar.co.uk.
Over the years we’ve been honoured to pick up various gongs for the quality of our news, reviews, comment, videos and photography, but all the while it’s been pretty apparent that the technology that our site has been sitting on has been lagging some way behind the standard of the content.
No more. It’s been quite a journey to get here - in fact, we've spent more than 18 months creating and building it - but what you see before you is the culmination of hard work by every member of the Autocar team.
We’ve tried to avoid change for change’s sake, instead focusing on what we could do better. Hopefully we’ve got it right – and one of the best bits of news is that you can let us know by registering (or re-registering) in our overhauled forums.
We’re particularly proud of our new-look car reviews section, which gives greater prominence to verdicts derived from our world famous road tests. In total, 350 tests have been written ahead of the new site’s launch, which equates to around one million words, all of them now accompanied by captioned, hi-res picture galleries.
Anyhow, rather than have me run you through an exhaustive list of what we’ve done, I hope you’ll take the time to delve around and discover the changes for yourself.
Finally, a bit of a plea: turning a new website on isn’t as isn’t as simple as flicking a switch and standing back to watch the magic happen. The website will evolve over the coming weeks and months, but if you have any comments, let us know at feedback@autocar.co.uk.
There will be teething troubles, and initially there will be sections of the site that run slowly. Please bear with us as we optimise what we now have.
After that, our goal is to keep you coming back. This launch marks only the start of a new beginning for autocar.co.uk – as well as our ongoing investment in expert editorial from the Autocar team, we’ve got plenty more technical developments to roll out over the coming months.
It promises to be an exciting time, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of it.
Jim
