Merc’s mid-sized load-lugger caught on camera undisguised for the first time

These are the first pictures of the new Mercedes-Benz C-class estate, caught undisguised a whole two months ahead of its launch in October. The new C-class wagon, which will be officially revealed at the Frankfurt motor show in September, follows the square-edged looks of the new saloon, which is already on sale. It’ll also offer the same range of engines when it goes on sale in the UK in the second quarter of 2008. Diesels will range from the four-cylinder C200 CDI and C220 CDI to the six-cylinder C280 CDI and C320 CDI. Petrols will start with the four-cylinder C180 Kompressor and go up to the six-cylinder C350. There will also be a storming 457bhp 6.2-litre V8-powered C63 wagon, which we’re expecting to be a bit of a corker, given how great the C63 saloon is to drive. In continental Europe there will be the option of a four-wheel drive 4-matic version, but the location of that car’s extra driveshafts means it can’t be converted to right-hand drive.Prices will be announced closer to the car’s UK launch, but are expected to be around £1000 higher than for the equivalent saloon, so are likely to start at just over £25,000 for the C180K.
