The Lotus-VW trike

VW’s GX-3, its three-wheel concept unveiled at the Los Angeles show, has been snapped undergoing testing at Lotus in Norfolk.

The car, described as a cross between a motorbike and sports car, has a 125bhp 1.6 petrol engine, which according to VW returns 46mpg whilst launching the dramatic-looking concept to 60mph in 5.7 seconds. It weighs less than 600kg; about the same as a Caterham.

The front steering and suspension assembly are said to have been taken from the Lotus Elise and a building is apparently being cleared at Lotus to accommodate a production line for the GX-3, which according to sources is to be at least partly assembled there.
