The Lotus Evora has won Autocar’s annual Britain’s Best Driver’s Car comparison for 2009.

Lotus’s new 2+2 coupe beat last year’s winning car, the Nissan GT-R, plus nine performance cars launched within the past 12 months, to seal a victory after three days of driving on roads and at Goodwood Motor Circuit in Sussex.

Nine out of ten Autocar judges placed the Evora first when voting for their favourite from this year’s assembled cars.

Second place went to another British car, Aston Martin’s V12 Vantage, with the new Porsche 911 GT3 in third and the Nissan GT-R in fourth overall.

Autocar Editor Chas Hallett said the Evora was “the best handling car here.”

Editor-in-Chief Steve Cropley called the Lotus a “totally brilliant Handling Day car; stable, adjustable, quick, forgiving, flattering.”
