Rolls-Royce has recruited former Mini design chief Anders Warming as its new design boss, claiming he will play a crucial role in the British firm's move towards full electrification. 

Warming, 48, will join BMW-owned Rolls-Royce from 1 July, replacing Jozef Kaban. Warming left the BMW Group in 2016 following six years as head of design at Mini and three years as exterior chief designer at BMW. 

Other previous positions include senior design roles at Volkswagen and Borgward, a recently revived German car manufacturer now backed by Chinese investment.  

“As our director of design, [Warming] will have a key role in defining our future aesthetic direction and realising our clients’ dreams and aspirations,” said Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös. “Anders joins us as we move forward to full electrification of our brand, which will shape Rolls-Royce for decades to come.”

Warming studied major transport design at Art Center College of Design Europe in Switzerland, and has contributed to the exterior designs of the second-generation BMW BMW X3, the BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW Z4 and the current, third-generation BMW Mini.

“Anders Warming has a proven track record as an extremely creative and passionate designer with a keen eye for detail and craftsmanship and since he has spent most of his career in our design team, I am sure he will integrate very quickly,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, senior vice-president of design at the BMW Group.

I can't help thinking he should be working on hot air dryers or thermal gloves or suchlike!

I don't recall any of the models named in the article as a masterpiece. Especially the current MINI which looks swollen and a bit clumsy. Let's not even talk about the ix40. Maybe mr. Warming will finally find his place in a company where a huge grille actually makes sense.

Is this a sick joke? Anders Warming is singlehandedly responsible ruining MINI. The Mk1 and Mk2 BMW-MINIs were handsome cars. Then Anders comes in and slaps a huge fish mouth on the front of the F56 (Mk3), those hideous oversized tail lamps, the underbite front bumper, stupid looking cross eyed headlights, etc.

Anders Warming is one of the least talented designers. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s also responsible for BMW’s mega nostrils they’re plastering on every new car.
