The SsangYong XLV concept previews a production B-segment SUV tipped for a 2015 launch

SsangYong is to reveal a Ford Ecosport-rivalling SUV concept at the Geneva motor show next month. The concept previews a forthcoming production model currently under development, slated for launch in a year’s time.

The SsangYong XLV concept, which signifies “exciting, smart Lifestyle Vehicle”, is described as a “multi-role” B-segment SUV concept. Despite its compact dimensions, the XLV has seven seats in three rows of two. An additional seat slides between the second and third rows for “optimum flexibility”.

The XLV is 290mm longer than the XIV-1 concept, which was first shown at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show. The XLV measures 4430mm long, 1845mm wide and 1600mm high; this makes it fractionally longer and narrower than the EcoSport. Its 2600mm wheelbase is some 79mm longer than the Ford.

Power comes from a 1.6-litre diesel engine mated to an electric motor powered by a lithium ion battery. No performance details have been revealed.

The XLV is the latest model to showcase SsangYong’s ‘Nature born 3 motion’ design language.
