Pro racer Oliver James Webb will drive latest open-top supercar in new Race Cars for the Road class

Liverpool-based carmaker BAC wants to beat its record-breaking 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed Hill Climb time with its latest single-seater BAC Mono supercar.

BAC will showcase its 2016 Mono at this year’s June event, with official development and test driver Oliver James Webb attempting to improve on last year’s unofficial time of 47.9 seconds.

Webb’s Mono weighs just 580kg and is powered by a 305bhp 2.5-litre Mountune engine. It can accelerate from 0-60mph in 2.8sec, making it one of the quickest cars to tackle the famous hillclimb.

It’ll run in the new ‘Race Cars For The Road’ class, which includes track-focused, road-legal cars, and unlike last year, its run will be officially timed. If Webb beats last year’s time, the BAC Mono stands good chance of becoming the official hillclimb record holder at Goodwood for the first time.

“Driving the BAC Mono up the famous Goodwood hill climb in front of so many festivalgoers was a brilliant experience in 2015,” commented Webb. “It will be fascinating to see just how quick the latest version of the Mono can go this time around.”

BAC co-founders Ian and Neill Briggs will be on the stand at the show. Briggs said: “Goodwood is really important to us as a young British car company, as it is a great place in our home country to meet fans and owners of our cars from all over the world.”

The 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed will take place from June 23-26, with Webb’s timed run taking place on the final day.
