Latest A7 Sportback gets cosmetic upgrades and a new entry-level 60mpg front-wheel-drive 'ultra' option powered by a 3.0-litre, V6 turbodiesel

The Audi A7 Sportback five-door coupé has been refreshed, with mild styling tweaks, reworked engines and new transmissions among the key changes. The revised car was displayed to the public at the Paris motor show.

The most significant news is a fresh addition to the range, the Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI ultra. This front-wheel-drive variant – the new entry-level car – features a V6 turbocharged diesel with 215bhp and 295lb ft, mated to a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission. It's claimed to be capable of averaging 60.1mpg on the combined cycle and emits 122g/km, which will result in a yearly road tax of £110. The range starts at £45,875 for the 3.0 TDI ultra in SE Executive trim.

Buyers can also opt from a choice of two other diesels and two petrols, all of which comply with EU6 emissions regulations. In all, three trim levels are offered: SE Exective, which replaces the Standard and SE options in the outgoing range, S Line and Black Edition, as well as the S7 and RS7 range-toppers.

The RS7 Sportback is powered by a V8 twin-turbo petrol engine that has an output of 552bhp and can sprint from 0-62mph in under four seconds. Engine revisions have brought slight improvements to CO2 output and economy, which now stand at 221g/km and 29.7mpg on the combined cycle. The RS7 costs £84,480.

In front‑wheel-drive versions of the Audi A7 Sportback a redeveloped seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox replaces the eight-speed 'multitronic' CVT. Some powertrain options in the range are now also combined with new lightweight brakes.

The key exterior cosmetic changes are the adoption of Audi's new 'singleframe' grille and resculpted front and rear bumpers. Audi has also tweaked the tailpipes, which now have wider, trapezoidal apertures.

The car also gets LED headlamps as standard in addition to the existing LED daytime running lights. Dynamic indicators with a sweeping function in the direction of the turn are also standard at the rear and optional for the front light units.

Inside, the refreshed A7 Sportback now features the latest generation of the Audi modular infotainment system, while some new upholstery and trim colour options are also on offer.

The revised Audi A7 Sportback is available to order now and first UK deliveries are anticipated in the last quarter of 2014.

Reverse engineering!

Took a beautiful car and turned it into a bloated A5 lookalike!

I like the way Audi are

I like the way Audi are taking advantage of LED headlamp technology and producing slimline lamp units, which make for a more striking look. Contrast this with Mercedes, who still fit great big units, which they then have to pad out with various bits of twiddly plastic and extra rows of DRLs.

I'm surprised Audi never

I'm surprised Audi never produced a conventional 2dr A7 coupe to complement the Sportback, like they've done with the A5. I'm sure they would not want the Mercedes E-Class coupe to have the executive coupe market all to itself.
