Range Rover boss says company has "nothing to fear from anyone"

The potential to order a £100,000-plus version of the new Range Rover now is evidence that the brand is ready to battle Bentley and Lamborghini for sales according to company boss John Edwards.

The mooted rivals are set to go on sale around 2015 with reported price tags around £150,000. Talking at the Paris motor show, Edwards said that the presence of £100,000 Range Rovers in the range now demonstrated the firm's intention to fight its high-end rivals head on.

"This new car is designed to venture north in terms of price, that's clear," said Edwards. "Now you can easily spec over £100,000 and there is clearly more we can do in terms of choices of leathers, woods, finishes and technology packages.

"Range Rover has nothing to fear from anyone. We have an authenticity in the SUV market that nobody can touch. We are specialists in what we do, we know the market better than our rivals, we have three icons already there in Range Rover, Discovery and Defender and a design classic in the Evoque, and we look ahead with confidence."

Mis-read

I mis-read the title of this article and thought the Range Rover was battling Britney.  That's a fight I'd like to see!

I dont really believe Bentley

I dont really believe Bentley or Lamborghini SUV's will be a success, someone who currently owns either of them, who wanted an SUV would probably buy a Range Rover because they do what it says on the tin, but it appears if there is a niche VAG want to fill it, and if there isnt one they will make one..It just isnt right for the history of theses great sporting Maques to be lumbered with the school run brigade, because thats where they will end up..

Styling v design

The Evoque is NOT a 'design classic' - it's a restyled Freelander. Defender and original Range Rover ARE design classics.
