Radical gullwing sports car revealed showing a real-life version of a virtual concept for Gran Turismo 6

The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, a spectacular new gullwinged sports car concept created by its in-house design team for inclusion in Sony’s new PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 6, has been revealed.

The brawny-looking gullwing coupé was unveiled as a model at the opening of Mercedes-Benz’s new R&D centre in Sunnyvale, California ahead of the Los Angeles motor show.

Despite the reveal of the model in 1:1 scale, the two-seater is destined to remain a feature of the virtual world as the first in a series of Vision Gran Turismo virtual concepts.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic 300 SL, Mercedes’ designers have given their latest concept exaggerated proportions, including a long probing nose and a cabin sited well back within the wheelbase to give an instantly aggressive appearance.

The AMG Vision Gran Turismo runs a front-mounted, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine of unspecified size developing 577bhp together with 590lb ft of torque. With a virtual aluminium spaceframe body and weighing 1385kg, it has a power-to-weight ratio of 417bhp per tonne.

Mercedes-Benz describes this figure as being “unrivalled in the super sports car segment and one that guarantees exceptionally dynamic performance”.

Now some idiot non-dom

will pay stupid money in order to own a working version, in which he'll then drive fewer than 300 miles. After the press have stated authoritatively, on the basis of absolutely nothing, that it cost £Xm and is the most expensive Mercedes ever built, he will attempt to sell 18 months later for three times this sum and on forums everywhere penurious petrolheads will say that given the money (fat chance) they'd sooner have a 'proper' gullwing 300SL for half the price. It's horrible, by the way, completely infantile.

Given that it's completely made up I'm not entirely surprised it's unrivalled.

Thank you for pointing this out. It's depressing how this sort of thing is just regurgitated rather than questioned and analysed.
