The first Mercedes-Benz car to take part in the British Touring Car Championship in over 30 years has been revealed.
The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class race car will be driven by the Wix Racing team, with driver Adam Morgan at the wheel. Morgan finished in seventh place last season in his Toyota Avensis, with the Ciceley Racing team re-using many of the components from that car on the new Mercedes. The team plans to start testing the car at the end of this month, and has secured title sponsorship from Wix Racing.
Morgan will pilot the race-prepped A-class as part of the NGTC BTCC field, which includes 14 different models. Mercedes-Benz last fielded a car in the BTCC in the 1980s.
This year's season has already yielded several surprises for fans, including the return of two-time BTCC champion Alain Menu, who will drive a Volkswagen Passat CC, and Fabrizio Giovanardi, who will drive a Ford Focus ST.
The first round of the 2014 BTCC season takes place at Brands Hatch on 30 March.
