M division is working on an even faster version of the M5 performance saloon that reportedly has an additional 25bhp and styling tweaks

Details of the BMW BMW M5 Competition, a more powerful version of M division's performance saloon, have leaked online ahead of an anticipated reveal next week.

BMW blog site Bimmerpost reported that the more extreme M5 model will have an extra 25bhp over the standard model, meaning it produces 616bhp.

That translates to a 0-62mph benchmark sprint of 3.3secs, which is 0.1sec faster than the standard M5, and a 0-124mph time of 10.8secs, 0.3secs faster than the M5. By comparision, the rival Mercedes E63 S can sprint from 0-62mph in 3.4secs.

Bimmerpost also suggested the M5 Competition will be equipped with a Sports Exhaust that is retuned to provide a louder, more raucous engine note, and the suspension will be lower and also feel firmer when the car's sportier driving modes are engaged.

Styling tweaks include black badging, black front and side grilles, a high-gloss rear boot lip and illuminated door seals emblazoned with 'Competition'.

Bimmerpost's information is said to have come from an enthusiast who has placed an order for an M5 Competition. Production will begin in July, and deliveries in September, it claimed.

There is no steer on pricing, but the previous M5 Competition cost £80,205.

The model will be the fourth Competition model in BMW’s performance line-up, sitting alongside the BMW  M3 and M4 Competition and the recently introduced BMW  M2 Competition. The latter is a replacement for the existing M2, whereas the other Competition models sit alongside their standard siblings.

Not enough interest I guess, maybe what’s on offer from BMW is enough for the loyal owners of BMW’s? I don’t know, but an M5 touring would be logical......
