Currently reading: BMW One dumps kit to tackle A3

The entry-level BMW 1-series has gone straight for the Audi A3’s jugular, but the rest of the baby BMW’s range is pitched significantly above its chief rival. The 116i will be priced from £15,690, although the low kit count means no alloys or air-con as standard. It does though include six airbags, DSC, a puncture warning system and run-flat tyres. Upgrading to either SE or Sport trim costs just under £2k on any of the launch range of 116i, 120i, 118d and 120d, which tops out at £20,800. Sales start in September, with a 118i petrol version joining the line-up later this year.
