Company boss admits the firm will launch a hardcore version of its new supermini

Audi is set to launch a hardcore S1 version of the new A1, company boss Rupert Stadler has admitted.

“Sportiness is a core value for the Audi brand and we have some clear ideas [for the A1] in this direction,” Stadler said. However, he refused to expand on the exact form the range-topping A1 might take.

Earlier this year Autocar revealed that the S1 is likely to be powered by a 180bhp version of the 1.4-litre twincharger engine, which will be mated to a seven-speed DSG ’box.

However, Audi engineers at the A1 launch admitted that the company’s 2.0-litre TFSI engines will also fit sideways in the A1’s engine bay.

Re: Hot Audi S1 confirmed

How much will this cost. I speced a normal 1.4 petrol S Line with a few options on the Audi website and was horrified with a total price of 21K. This means that this S1 with a few options will set you back 28K, I assume. For this money you can buy some decent cars that are not a tarted up Polo. I really like Audi's but I think that the options and spec cost are out of control. It's Ok while they are fashionable but that won't last for too long.

Re: Hot Audi S1 confirmed

Hi, I'm 11 years old and I am crazy about cars. Just to think they have only just released the A1 and now a few months after the release they have a new version. I just think Audi are trying to get things done a little bit too quickly, and a sign of that is the upcoming RS7, where did that come from!? We haven't even heard of an A7 yet! Anyway, it is a good idea because this is opening a whole new Market aspect for audi the hot hatch bit then the A3 could be considered, the S1 will bring competition to VW's polo R and the seat ibizia cupra.
