According to reports on The Wall Street Journal, the Revero will be based on the Karma sports car of the now defunct Fisker Automotive (pictured), but will feature an extensively reengineered drivetrain and battery system, and use parts supplied by BMW.
Despite these extensive upgrades, the body of the car will likely resemble that of the original Fisker Karma.
Though details are slim, Karma has suggested that the Revero is at an advanced stage of development, and hopes to start taking orders later this year. Cars will be built in the firm’s California factory.
Owners of old Karma models from the Fisker-era will also be able to continue receiving servicing and upgrades from the brand. An estimated 80% of Fisker buyers still own their cars.
Fisker Automotive closed for business in 2013 due to a lack of funding. With new Chinese owners Wanxiang Group providing a stronger financial backing to the renamed Karma, however, insiders are anticipating a more productive future for the American company.
