This is Kia's new challenger to the Focus and Golf - codenamed ED and announced at the British motor show yesterday afternoon (18 July).
Based on the Cee'd concept vehicle, the new car will be available with four engines when it launches this December - 1.4-, 1.6- and 2.0-litre CVVT petrol units and a 1.6-litre diesel. ED has been created exclusively for European consumers, marking an aggressive fresh assault by Kia on key markets. It was Britain's fastest-growing brand in 2005.
ED will be produced in Europe too, at a plant at Zilina in Slovakia. The five-door model seen here will be joined by estates and three-door model from September and December 2007 respectively.
The Cee'd is on display at ExCeL, but the car it has spawned won't appear in public until the Paris motor show in September, when prices, specs - and its name - will be revealed.
