Kia Motors America has released pictures of its new B-Spec Kia Rio 5-door racing car.

Due to be officially unveiled at the Speciality Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas on November 1st, the car builds on the experience Kia have gained by entering the Forte Koup (the Ceranto) in the Grand-Am racing series last year, the company’s first foray into motor sport.

Based on the Rio 5-door, the car was prepared by KMA’s racing partner, Kinetic Motorsports. Alterations include a competition roll cage, safety equipment and suspension components.

The car is designed to comply with multiple sanctioning bodies including GRAND-AM, Sports Car Club of America and World Challenge.

Michael Sprague of KMA said “We have a unique opportunity to introduce Kia to a new and passionate racing community by providing an affordable and great-looking race car that delivers best-in-class horsepower in the rapidly expanding B-segment.”

News of the B-Spec Rio racing car follows the unveiling of the Kia Picanto Race that was shown at the Frankfurt motor show last month.
